About

Habari!

I’m a culturally confused girl who spent the first three decades of her life in the United Arab Emirates with a Kenyan passport and Yemeni roots. I learnt the UAE national anthem and history before I learnt the Kenyan one, and I’m more comfortable speaking in Arabic than in Swahili.

Yet one fateful Sunday [18-June-2017], after graduating with a PhD in Interdisciplinary Engineering, I received an email that informed me my work visa application has been rejected.

So I had to pack three decades of my life in three weeks and buy a one-way ticket to Kenya where I started to rebuild my life again.

I’m intellectually curious, fascinated by everything from science (both physical and data) to personal development and psychology so I read a lot.

Like, a lot.

This blog is just a space where I collate and share ideas I come across in addition to bits and pieces of my journey that I feel will benefit others.

Books have not only shaped my life, but they’ve also helped me pick its shards and rebuild it when things fell apart. I’m always open to great discussions about fascinating ideas so if you’re ever in Nairobi, feel free to send me an email on amina.hs.islam@gmail.com so we can meet up for a cup of coffee.

Thanks for visiting this blog and I hope it lives up to your expectations. Feel free to share it with your friends and family.
